THAT'S NOT MY SCHOOL

I sit in shock, and feel waves of sadness as I listen to the news
Of the tragedy that came today
To my school
I fight the tears and feel for the parents, friends and lovers
Of those lost today
At my school
I get angry at the news hounds trying to place blame and make sense
Out of the madness that happened
At my school

And I want to scream out "That's not my school!"
That's not the place of absolute beauty in a fall day
Of Hokiestone buildings, mountain settings, students and of course
Football, basketball and all the social events
That we remember so well

I will remember the loss, the hurt and pain, forever
I will hope for a memorial, different but hauntingly beautiful
Like the War Memorial
So we can remember those lost and wounded both physically and mentally

I will not forget to cherish the life we have to live
To hold my children dear in this world of no safe place
But I will not let this un-comprehensible disaster ruin what I hold on to

THAT'S NOT MY SCHOOL!
My school is a place of hope, acceptance, sharing and learning
My school is a place of honor, dignity, fairness and reward for hard work
My school is a place where `doing it right' is more important that `win at all costs'
My school is a place where we will remember our past,
And have high hopes for tomorrow
My school is a place to see the future in the faces and people that walk the campus

My school is Virginia Tech

And I am proud to say `THAT'S MY SCHOOL!'

shootings

You know it is amazing to me. I am watching this program on tv and NOT one of the people from the school that are speaking are speaking from their hearts. It is all prepared speeches. In my heart I do not believe that any of the speakers care about what happened yesterday. If they did they wouldn't spend so much time writing speeches and spend more time speaking from their hearts. That is if they even have one.

My heart goes out to each and every one of those who lost a loved one or friend and also to the family of the one who has done this. You will all be in my prayers.

With You in Your Journey: Support for Va Tech.

I've joined this site simply to say I care deeply about the losses, personally and beyond, that the April 16th massacre involve.

I have done a lot of counseling.  If you need someone to "talk to", please feel free to write me.  We can make it more private simply by using my email address.  Everything will be strictly confidential and seen  only by me.

There are no answers for the "Why?" questions, but there  are aids for the pain.  Basically they are:
(1  HANG ON - Others deeply care. I do.  God does.

  1.  HOPE FOR TOMORROW  The pain will gradually be bearable.

  2.  HUG YOURSELF AND OTHERS.  I call those "paychecks" which we can offer to each other just to show we care.

I believe God did NOT want this to have happened.  God cries when we cry (and laughs when we laugh).  God wants the best for us and will help us get through the roughest times in our lives.  WE ARE NEVER ALONE.  God is with us always!

I hope to hear from you soon.  Say anything in any way, just talk to me.

I am WITH YOU (wy)IN YOUR JOURNEY,

Harold

IN MEMORY

This event is an historic national tragedy. Tonight, over thirty of America's finest lay dead, their brutal deaths serving as a warning to all Americans that we must never allow ourselves to accept such events as random and inevitable. We must ensure that those in the Virginia Tech Administration who were responsible for ordering classes to commence when an at-large gunman had infiltrated their campus and brutally murdered two of their students are held accountable. This is the same administration that ordered classes to be held the day after September 11, 2001, when the rest of our nation and the world was joined together in prayer and mourning. Their arrogance and their callousness towards the men and women supposedly in their care has been exposed. I am a Virginia resident and my brother goes to Tech. Thankfully, tonight I do not mourn.

the american tragedy

As a Brit with a lot of US friends, can I add my sympathies. We are more rationalist on this side of the Atlantic and find this speculation about God's so called will bizarre and medieval.
The remedy is in your own hands. It's called gun control. Your Right to bear arms was designed for the wild west not for the economic protection of arms manufacturers.
No doubt this makes me a godless pinko (I'm happy with that!) but it's what the rest of the world thinks.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the parents, students and faculty. We are so sorry for the tragic loss of the beautiful lives of those who were prematurely taken away from our world. May the survivors of this horrible event eventually find peace in their own lives.

With Great Sadness

Here in Vienna VA, my heart is breaking for all of you. My memories of Tech will always be of a beautiful school, my daughter's first choice, and of our visit in the Summer of 2003. If I could post a picture of our trip, it would show two beautiful fresh-faced HS Juniors looking toward the future. We were so impressed. It is such a sweet picture and that is how I will choose to remember.

Future Scenerios of Defense against attacks

My suggestion for everyone is to realize and possibly consider training self defense and sacrifice of self in these types of scenerios. Just a few people alone could have given their lives to take down this shooter and saved many others in the process. If an entire class of students had all charged this killer many of them would have lived another day.

Prayer and Compassion

As the mother of a victim of gun violence, I understand the horrific grief being experienced by the family members of those slain.  I ask that those close to the families affected provide the compassion and support they will need in the coming days and possibly years.  This type of violence tears to the root of our souls and leave a painful void in our hearts.  It can only be understood if experienced and I hope none of you reading this have.  We also realized that God, in his infinite wisdom, only takes that best.  They are at peace.  Prey for those God has left behind.  Trust that students on every campus in America will use this tragedy to make changes.  Prey that their efforts will end gun violence of this nature in our society.

future scenario...

TO:

  1.  'Future Scenario'; how do you know that all 32 of those killed by this nut didn't die trying? Would YOU, unarmed, face a 9mm bravely?

  2.  The MEDIA;  Nice...ask those terrified and wounded CHILDREN how they FEEL, uninterrupted (at least for the first 10 minutes) by commercials.  THEN, try your best on national news at 7am to set up the VT president and police department as unsympathetic, incompetent elements in the whole thing.

It'd be nice to give those program mangagers at MBC/CNN/CBS/ABC/FOX all the keys to the kingdom, so that they can simply "do the right thing" at every turn, and not be criticized for it when they know absolutely.....NOTHING.

A sad, sad day.

by Anonymous Hero on Tue Apr 17, 2007 at 12:25:41 PM EDT

from future scenerio

Not judging those in harms way; future scenerios could be changed, however, if people have a different mindset. People may never be allowed to carry side arms for self defense; though that would be a great defense against such crazies. My suggestion is to train people how to defend themselves against such scenerios. Perhaps it could be possible to place body armor and sheilds in strategic locations (like fire extinguishers are) for those brave enough to bear them in order to fight and save lives. No comment was made against those who may have fought to save their own lives.

My stage of grief

Yes I find it very sad and have spilled tears of emotion over the senseless tragedy. I looked out for a place for my voice and found this place. My stage of grief is in search for answers and solutions and hoping to share and be heard. In my own experience college doors are often unlockable and locks controlled by security staff only; sometimes by teachers. I heard one professor gave his life trying to hold the door closed; maybe because he had no way of immediately locking the door. Yes it would be great to be able to lock the doors and for instant text messaging, loud speakers, sirens and the like. I had thought of another solution I wanted to share. Books are sometimes thick enough to stop bullets. Book bags and or jackets could be made to hold books in a position which would cover vital areas of the body. Even upon the forearms to be held up in front of the face as sheilds. My way of grieving and moving on.

Letter From Heaven

To my dearest family, some things I would like to say.
But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.

I`m writing this letter from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there`s no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I`m out of sight.
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and he said, " I welcome you

It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, They'll be here later on.

I need you here badly, your part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.

And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, all those loving years.
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.

But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned,
If I were to tell you, you would not understand.

But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over.
I am closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb,
But together we can do it by taking one step at a time.

It was always my philosophy and I`de like it for you too,
That as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who`s in sorrow and pain,
Then you can say to God at night......" My day was not in vain."

And now I am contented.... that my life was worthwhile.
Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
Just lend a hand to pick them up, as on your way you go.

When you`re walking down the street and you`ve got me on your mind,
I`m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it`s time for you to go... from that body to be free.
Remember you`re not going.... you`re coming here to me.

Mental health problems and gun control in va

This guy, was a seriously disturbed individual, no doubt. His level of sickness and depravity is just staggering. I just read the warrant wh ich detailed the contents of his dorm room, and it made me cringe. Amazingly, he actually seemed to scale down what he was really planning as there was numerous references to explosives.

Tech is a big part of my family, my sister grad from there, my step dad works for tech and I went to Radford.

Tech is and always will be a wonderful school and place for students to attend. My hope is that people never forget public places everywhere struggle with crazy people (PA School House et. al) and Va Tech's reputation should not suffer in any way from the actions of pathetic brutal lunatic

So sorry

I wanted to take minute to comment about a visit my daughter and I had to VT.

About 2 months ago my daughter and I were on a tour of the VT campus.  She was there with about 30 other prospective students. While it is easy to become enamoured with the beauty of the campus, what impressed us, and continues to impress us is the love of the school and the support from the town.  Everywhere we visited and everyone we talked to said the same thing..."they loved it at Virginia Tech!"
It wasn't a mere mumble under ones breath, it was a sincere signal of pride.  Not one person ever hesitated.

In this terrible tradgedy that no parent, official, professor or student would ever imagine happening anywhere there is one theme that continues to rise and cut through all the nay-sayers and doubters....the love of the school, fellow classmates, and the town has not waivered one bit.  You see it on the nightly reports and in the news.  The reporters try hard to find someone who is going to say something negative...looking for that feeding frenzy instead of focusing on the passion and the love that these students hold for their fallen friends as well as the insitution itself.

Even though we did not know any of these young adults our hearts go out to their families, friends, and entire student body.  However it seems to us,, especially with my daughter, that Virginia Tech is a special place.  Through the love and support from everyone associated with this school the suffering families and surviving students will continue to receive the compassion and passion that never seems to waiver.

I don't know if my child will come to this wonderful institution.  That is her decision.  As she has been watching and reading, she has been strengthened by the resolve of the students, community, and faculty...as we all are... she is equally saddened by the tragedy. If she does choose VT, we will consider her very lucky.

As mentioned before, we have no personal connections to any student at VT, but from a parent and another young adult from the State of Maryland.....love to all...love to 32.

little Lamb

mary had a little had a lttle lamb,
his fleece was white as snow.
and everywhere that mary went,
the lamb was sure to go.
he followed her to school each day,
twasn't even in the rule.
he made the children laugh and play.
to have a lamb at school.
and then the rules all changed one day,
illegal it became.
to bring the lamb of God to school,
or even speak his name.
everyday got worse and worse,
and days turned into years.
instead of hearing children laugh,
we heard gun shots and tears.
what must we do to stop the crime,
thats in our school today?
lets let the Lamb come back to school,
and teach the kids to Pray!
